No Resistance

from The Last Things [ep] by John Harvey

/

about

The improvisation was realised as a viable track only on playback, when I heard it at a slower than recorded speed (one and seven-eighths inches per second as opposed to three and three-quarter inches per second) and in reverse (the supply reel having been run onto the take-up reel the wrong way around). In this sense, the piece was a found sound of my own making. It is one of a number of experimental pieces that dealt with spontaneous composition over a very small arc of time.
